A Case of Post-stroke Rhythmic Akathisia

چکیده
netic movement disorders are uncommon in acute stroke. Ghika Schmid et al. have identified 29 patients with acute or delayed movement disorders among 2500 acute stroke patients. Recently, we have experienced 34 post-stroke tremor patients among approximately 2000 acute stroke patients over a 5-year period. Our results suggested that post-stroke dyskinesia are not very rare symptoms of stroke. Furthermore, it is suspected that clinical patterns are also diverse. We have recently experienced a new form of poststroke dyskinesia which was fairly rhythmic. As far as we know, only one case of post-stroke akathisia has been reported until now. T h e symptoms and signs are partly compatible with akathisia. However, the rhythmic tendency and lack of any medication history of antipsychotics suggested that dyskinesia were not the typical form of akathisia. The present case may represent a new clinical type of movement disorder developed after stroke. Therefore, we report the case and discuss with reference to related artic l e s .

Effect of Resisted Bimanual Therapy With Auditory Cues on Arm Function, Balance, and Endurance in Stroke Survivors: A Pilot Study
Objectives: Upper limb motor impairment causes limited activities of daily living in stroke survivors. Bimanual therapy is based on Bimanual movement that facilitates cortical balancing by simultaneous movement of paretic and non-paretic arms while performing a task. Studies aimed at exploring the effects of resisted Bimanual therapy with rhythmic auditory cues on arm function, balance, and end...
متن کاملLower limb motor restlessness in Asperger's disorder, measured using actometry.
The movement disturbances and brain imaging findings in Asperger's disorder (AD) suggest a dopaminergic deficit in movement regulation. Movement disorders of different etiologies have been quantified and specified with actometry. We compared 10 AD patients with 10 healthy controls, measuring their rest-activities by actometry. The lower limb motor activity was significantly higher in the AD gro...
متن کاملProchlorperazine-Induced Hemidystonia Mimicking Acute Stroke
Prochlorperazine is frequently used in the treatment of refractory nausea and migraines. Known side effects include extrapyramidal symptoms such as akathisia and dystonia. We report a pregnant patient taking prochlorperazine for hyperemesis gravidarum who developed hemidystonia, which triggered an acute code stroke response from prehospital, emergency medicine and neurology providers. We suspec...
